The Unfiltered Erev Rav, Part One

The purpose of this post is to combat an increase in confusion among those seeking clarity in current events, and in the tradition of Ha Rav Ha Gaon, Rabbi Mendel Kessin, Shlit"a, to gain a greater understanding of the Divine Plan.  We seek this understanding in order to improve our avoda, to strengthen our faith and resolve, and to become illuminating beacons to others in these unprecedented, dark times.  

With the events that began the three Wars of Gog U'Magog, as brought down by Rav Wasserman, ZQT"L, beginning with the pestilence of the First World War, and the inexplicable industrial slaughter of the Second World War, we became accustomed to physical annihilation, displacement, and physical persecution.  The Third and final World War is foreseen as eclipsing the first of the two, as is known.

To paraphrase the Chazon Ish, from his sefer Emunah u'Bitachon, 'the final trial is not one of persecution, but one of confusion of the mind".  

Our holy sages, on the topic of the time of the ultimate redemption, commented that while they desire the coming of our Moshiach, they would rather not be around to experience it, (to put it mildly).  

To reconcile the statements of the Chazon Ish with the statement of our sages from the Gemara, we must fundamentally understand the magnitude and the source of the confusion of the mind, in order to comprehend the final trial, survive it, and even thrive in it.  

Let's go a bit deeper into what our sages tell us about this confusion, what it looks like, where it originates, and how we can identify it:  The Chazon Ish aptly points out that a person seeks certainty, not faith, and therefore he is captured by ideological systems that construct an imaginary security'.  He also states in his first Kovetz Igrot that 'the intellect, when it does not ask permission from the Torah, becomes a destructive weapon in a person's hand'.  The Malbim, in his commentary on Yeshayahu (28:15) declares "the many will believe them because their words are a mixture of wisdom and wickedness".  

Who is the 'unrestricted intellect', the 'person who promises certainty through corrupted ideology', the 'person who does not ask permission from the Torah, those who mix wisdom with wickedness'?  

The GRA in his Igrot warns us that "...the good and the evil become so intermixed that almost no difference remains to the eye".  In the second perek of his sefer Kol Ha Tor, he informs us that "the main accusation and the main war is from within and from inside, from the Erev Rav in our midst".  The Erev Rav is the final threat we face, which is primarily a threat from within, the source of the intellectual and spiritual plague of darkness we are currently engaged in, and which is being exploited to sew division and manipulate through confusion.  

The GRA tells us about the Erev Rav in general that "they make themselves appear as great tzadikim, and all their deeds seem, as it were, leshem shamayim".  The Malbim states something parallel on his commentary to Devarim 13:14 - "without coming from the outside, seducers arise from within the people and mislead them in the name of truth itself".  The Ramchal, in the Adir Bamarom states that "the main war will not be with external enemies, but with internal enemies, who are clothed within holiness itself", and "specifically those who appear as great zealots are the primary destroyers, because their zeal is not from the side of emet".  In his Ma'amar HaGeula, he writes that "they will establish a redemption [Zionism?] that resembles holiness, but it is not the true redemption, and many will be led astray after it".  In Da'at Tevunot he explains that "for the Kadosh Baruch Hu desired that the final bechira (free choice) be exceedingly refined, and therefore the mixture will be very great".  Looking at this as originating from the upper worlds, we see in his Kelach Pitchei Chochma that "the root of these is from lights that fell from their place, and therefore there is in them great power and great corruption together".  Going back to the Adir Bamarom, Ramchal provides a clear remedy for the situation in which we find ourselves, namely that "only those who remain in simplicity, in complete faith, and in the subjugation of intellect to the Torah, they will not err".

With all this stated, I believe that we have a basis to identify and resist the Erev Rav and their ideologies, provided we have enough humility and fortitude, besiyata d'shamaya.    

Now we can begin to discuss the origins of Erev Rav in all their types, so we have a foundation of knowledge of how powerful they are, what their limitations are, and from where they draw their unnatural success.  

In the eleventh perek of his sefer Even Shleimah, the GRA enumerates the types of Erev Rav:

1. Nephilim
2. Giborim
3. Anakim
4. Refaim
5. Amalek

The Gra also states that the "Nephilim are the greatest blemish of them all, because their wisdom is great and their corruption is great".  

There are deep secrets surrounding the origins of Erev Rav, and the enumeration of their classes shows us who they are very clearly by calling them by name, here and elsewhere.  In Sefer Bereshit, we briefly see mentions of the names of the giants and their descendants.   As a matter of interest, there are a number of sefarim that were forbidden to include as part of Tanach which go into this with valuable insights, which were referenced in part by our sages, but it is not within my ability to 'peel the fruit' sufficiently to include more than a small background for context and I will not quote or cite them directly.  Do not rely on this in any way, and I do not recommend reading them without consulting an upright Rabbi, but the sefer Chanoch (Enoch) elaborates on the "Watchers", and explains the well known episode wherein the Melachim object to the creation of Man, and are subsequently sent to our universe to prove their assertion, and are immediately corrupted and banished to this world until the Final Judgement.  The children of these fallen angels became giants, and contained hybrid spiritual components - part human soul, part angelic.  Some were hybrids with animals and even plants, according to our sages.  The angels taught mankind many sciences, the art of warfare, seduction, weaponization of beauty and music, forbidden genetic engineering, and sorcery.  The Book of Jubilees echoes this account, as does the Book of Giants, discovered in the geniza at Qumran, near the Dead Sea.  It was not that these beings were inherently wicked, but their knowledge was unsuitable to this world in its as yet contaminated state, prior to Olam Ha Ba.  

These giants, with the notable exception of Og, were all killed during the Mabul.  The reason Og was spared during the flood, was because although he was a descendant of these fallen Melachim, he refused to corrupt his seed.  Prior to the Mabul, there was no cross species limitations to reproduction, and the giants would spill there seed onto anything living and create new abominations.  According to Chazal, Og drew a circle around himself and refused to move from it or engage in the activities of his brethren.  There is more to this, but it is outside the scope of this post. 

Now, let's get down to business and see if we can get an understanding of the roots of the Erev Rav, and try and figure out why they are motivated to delay the Final Geula...

Pirkei d'Rabbi Eliezer 22

The ministering angels said before the Holy One: What is man that You should remember him? God said: If you descend to the earth the evil inclination will rule you. They asked permission to descend and sanctify His Name. They descended. Shamchazai and Azael fell through the daughters of man. Shamchazai saw Naamah and fell. Azael taught weapons of war.

Although not well known, (I don't recall the place in the Gemara), we learn that Naamah was the wife of Noach.  Her name is conspicuously absent from the parsha in Bereshit.  We learn elsewhere that the progeny of this unholy union between Shamchazi and Naama (who would later become Noach's wife) was in fact...Og.  I recall it also being brought down that the first Malach (the one who took Naamah) tried to do teshuvah, but that it was not accepted, whereas the second Malach did not.  

Consequently, Shamchazai was suspended upside down between the lower border of Atzilut and the lower border of the Asiyah, not lower and not higher, which in some way can be interpreted as the inversion of high level da'at, just above the domain of the klipot, but not reaching up into the Atzilut either.  

The latter Malach, Azael was bound to the earth, and as we learn in Yoma 67b, Azazel refers to a strong and harsh mountain [and is called such] because it atones for the deeds of Uzza and Azazel.  Aside from the Gemara here, I would not rely on external information, as some if it derives from sifrei chutzaniut (non-canonical works excluded from Tanach).

Yalkut Shimoni: Bereishit 44

The sons of God saw the daughters of man—Shamchazai and Azael. Shamchazai saw Naamah, sister of Tuval-Kayin, attached to her and fell.

Again, we see here that the Yalkut Shimoni aligns with the Pirkei d'Rabbi Eliezer and gives us insights into how the individuals mentioned in Bereshit came about their various advances and innovations, which were, by definition, a mixed bag of good and evil (mostly evil).

Midrash Tanchuma Noach 5

When the angels descended below and corrupted their way with the daughters of man, they taught sorcery and abominations.

This supports my earlier assertion of the voracity of some of the information in the external books, along with the other midrashim.  It also shows the degenerate nature of the corrupted Melachim, when subject to the constraints of the Asiyah (our universe) and gives us an indication of how to identify them when they are mixed with profound degrees of "wise Torah".

Tikunei Zohar: Tikkun 21

These are the Nephilim who fell from above to below because wisdom descended without its garment and they mixed with mankind.

Chochma is rooted in the sefira of Atzilut, the highest of the four worlds, each with an infinitely higher level of revelation of Ohr Ein Sof, and an inversely proportional reduction of distinctions of individuality.  When this highest level descended, it took on the incomparable perception of self of our universe, which was inherently incompatible with the revealed wisdom, thus creating a fatal level of damage extending all the way up to the Yesod of Atzilut.

Tikunei Zohar: Tikkun 30

They are called Nephilim because they fell from the upper to the lower world and completed the blemishes of the world.

Without involvement in the higher worlds, damage created in the Asiyah is limited to Asiyah, and the repair can be completed here.  The damage to this world was thus complete and could not be repaired. The consequence, as we will later see, was the Mabul, the flood in the time of Noach.  This was not a punishment or retribution, per-se, but it was necessary to reset the entire wiring of the worlds to repair the damage.  The world was destroyed by "geshem", rain, which alludes to "gashmiut", physicality.  In the way that kashering utensils requires removal of residual contamination through the same method it acquired it, but at a greater degree, the world required purging of the physical damage through an unprecedented inflow of "geshem" (at extreme temperatures, fire and ice) in order to ensure the proper flow of sustenance from the higher worlds.  A hard reset required a full destruction of all gashmiut to rewire the entire system, which was accomplished by geshem.  This was a consequence of the damage, the essence of the punishment is suspended for the Final Judgement which in my view, indicates that without the merger of all of the worlds in Olam Ha Ba, the punishment cannot be fully realised.

Tikunei Zohar: Tikkun 24

They reincarnated into the later generations and clothed themselves in the souls of the Erev Rav, wise without fear.

This is the essence of the origin of the souls of the Erev Rav! 

While their bodies were destroyed, their angelic and angelic-hybrid souls remained trapped here by divine decree, unable to rise back to Atzilut or be annihilated outright until the Final Judgement.  The external books (which we don't hold of or have the ability to extract actionable information) mention that they were punished by having to endure the deaths of their hybrid children.   Prior to Yetziat Mitzraim, when the tikkun required to bring Olam Ha Ba was binary - one either earned it, or was annihilated, the souls of the Nephilim migrated into the great leaders like Nimrod, the Giborim into Pharaoh, and so on.  Once the Exodus was manifested, those souls all concentrated into the insincere Egyptian converts (from all sorts of nationalities, including the Egyptian priesthood) who were spiritually unready to receive souls of Israel, and have plagued our Nation and the world ever since.  

This begs the question of why?  What is in it for them?

Their angelic root souls are either unrepentant and rebellious or despondent that their repentance was not accepted, so they chose to try and delay the Geula, and thus maximize their time here and avoid their destruction.  

Now, we know that Chazal bring down that Eliezer, the servant of Avraham was Og.  The Torah also refers to him as "cursed", in the context of being a Canaanite, but we can understand this to have a double meaning in the sense that the fallen ones were in fact cursed, and he himself dwelled in Canaan and the Bashan.  

Here is where it gets interesting with Og as Eliezer, after he gets a brit and becomes Avraham's disciple:  

After destroying his own nature by seeking out a wife for Yitzchak on behalf of Avraham, in a place filled with bad people, in spite of the fact that he himself was the chief student of Avraham, with a daughter of his own, he was then "Blessed of Hashem" and his status changed completely.  

We thus see that there seems to be some path of rectification of these hybrid souls.  This also explains why in the world Moshe Rabeinu took it upon himself to bring out the Erev Rav along with Bnei Israel from Egypt.  Not only did it allow for immediate vessels for the souls of the 80% of Bnei Israel who perished in the plague of darkness and did not leave Egypt with the rest of us, but it also allowed for a rectification of these trapped hybrid souls, in my opinion.  

Moshe Rabenu followed the example of Avraham who was already successful in this avoda vis-à-vis Eliezer...although the exile in which we are currently in, may it end now, has been in effect for over 3,300 years, as the immature souls of Bnei Israel have been unable to overcome the corrupted influence of their hybrid soul additions.  

Moshe Rabenu also knew that because of Hashem's promise to Avraham, 100% of them had to be redeemed, albeit at very low levels of Olam Ha Ba.  They could not be destroyed, as was the case of people prior to Avraham.  According to Rabbi Shimon Kessin, Sh"lita, the solution was to allow Olam Ha Ba to no longer be a binary, but instead have varying levels, below the pinnacle of possible achievement.  They are trapped in the klipot, unable to be rectified by Torah on their own volition, unable to do mitzvot, and as a result, continue to corrupt the entire world in their plight.  Their great knowledge is due to the angelic component, which should afford them the opportunity to mature sufficiently in the levels of their souls which are higher than the melachim, and overcome, but it has so far been unsuccessful and damaging, causing every exile, every churban, every expulsion, and persecution in the history of the Jewish Nation.  This is why Moshe Rabenu was not yet allowed to cross over into Eretz Yisrael, he must return in every generation and rectify the Erev Rav, after which he will resurrect FIRST, and enter the Land, along with Eliyahu Ha Navi, zechor l'tov, and our righteous Mashichim.

Tikunei Zohar: Tikkun 70

Damage of the supernal covenant is the root of all damage; when damaged above, it is damaged below.

The primary sin in which the fallen Melachim were prone to is in damage to the supernal covenant, the Brit, through forbidden relations of all kinds, wasting of seed, etc., which can be a key indicator of contamination of the soul in Jewish people.  While it could simply be via the influence of Erev Rav, those who seek to minimize the severity of these sins and influence others successfully, is a sure sign of their status.  

Understand that the sins of this kind did not cause damage above, but the damage above resulted in these sins.  Those who influence others to be lenient inherently understand this, but there is something deeper and more insidious at play.  When men waste seed, it is taken by and impregnates shedim.  These are not spiritual beings, but they get something of an upgrade from taking human seed, even though the operate at the highest regions of the Asiya, they are purely physical and maximally ethereal and can transcend both time and space, but have no souls.  They eat (blood, nefesh), reproduce, are born and die, and are extremely powerful and serve the purpose of punishing the wicked in this world.  

They were created by Adam on the eve of the first Shabbat through the sin of damaging the Brit, but their creation aborted on the onset of Shabbat, and are thus incomplete and lack solid bodies, which they now seek.  

The hybrids created by wasting seed, like their forebears, are not meant to be, and when they are created in this way, the hybrid sub-souls complain to Hashem and ask for sustenance, but He wants no part in sustaining abominations, so they are sent back to draw sustenance from their fathers. Now, understand that these Erev Rav souls, being truly spiritual, with high sources in the worlds above, understand quite well how to manipulate these shedim to their own ends.  One of the skills they taught man was summoning and binding shedim.  This is obviously a very, very bad thing to get involved in, not helpful in any way in furthering the Geula, and quite dangerous, even in our times.  This action of wasting seed mirrors the forbidden hybridization that the melachim got involved with in the first place, and those filthy souls that result create millions of accusations against their fathers.  They can easily be commanded by occult means, something that is within the innate toolboxes of these Erev Rav souls and not difficult for them to understand.  As an aside, so as not to induce hopelessness in the readers, since our generation is drowning in wasted seed, know that the recititation of Tikkun Klali along with tears of repentance and the waters of the Mikveh will kill these creations.  Unfortunately though, one has blood on their hands, Hashem Yirachem, but this can be forgiven on Yom Kippur with the appropriate intentions.  Fortunately, this damage is only to the Asiya, and can thus be repaired here.  

Perpetuating the damage below prevents the repairs above, understand this well.  It does not damage the higher worlds, it stops their repair and delays the Geula because the repair of the worlds, and the eventual connection of all of them, must occur here in our world first.

Shaar HaGilgulim: Hakdamah 4

The souls of the Nephilim were not destroyed in the Flood; only their bodies were. Their souls reincarnate each generation.

As mentioned previously in the Tikunei Zohar, it is critical to understand that the souls of corruption were preserved, and are sustained and perpetuated constantly to our own detriment.  They cannot be destroyed except by their Creator.  We can however, sustain them through damaging this world, G-d forbid!

Shaar HaGilgulim: Hakdamah 36

Most souls of the Erev Rav come from Nephilim souls and thus are extremely wise but destructive.

The highest level of hybrid souls are from the Nephilim themselves, they are the source of the leadership of the State of Israel, the titans of finance, the Jewish members of the US Senate and Congress, the Supreme Court Justices, the pornographers, Hollywood studio heads, even those seemingly "conservative" community leaders of all stripes who permit, condone or sympathize with forbidden relationships or lifestyles, and those so-called rabbis who permit usury.  Interesting to note that in the Israeli Kenesset, one of the most animated and libertine parliaments in the world, it is forbidden to utter the words "Erev Rav" under penalty of expulsion!  By definition, Erev Rav is exclusively a Jewish phenomenon, with one notable exception - Amalek, which is destined to be destroyed and is utterly unredeemable.  

Rabbi Yossi Mizrahi recently discussed a case in Israel where he was sued for slander by former Prime Minister Naftali Bennet, who he publicly declared to be a non-Jew.  The case progressed to a high court, and after a long and expensive process, the court eventually sided with Rabbi Mizrahi's claim as factual.  

Evidently, during the period of the Haavara Agreement, wherein the Nazis allied with the German Zionists and agreed to transfer the Jewish population to Palestine, there was a mass influx of non-Jewish women with their Jewish husbands, approximately 30,000 Germans came to Palestine to develop infrastructure for the doomed transfer plan which, after the intercession of the wicked Mufti, resulted in the Holocaust.  These mixed couples, primarily with non-Jewish wives, stayed in Palestine, and many of their descendants form the secular power base in the State of Israel including Ariel Sharon, may his name be erased.  This would effectively render their non-Jewish descendants as the lowest level of Erev Rav - Amalek.  

Since the Jewish bodies into which these hybrid souls incarnate have an infinitely higher source, one of Hashem's essence, they have the potential for rectification, whereas the non-Jewish bodies do not, there is nothing to rectify them at all, they are purely klipot.  Interesting to note the uproar within Israel and internationally when, following the October 7th massacre, references to the Torah directive to "blot out the name of Amalek" were made by the government and met with universal fury from within and without.  

In the Ari's Hakdama 17 in Shaarei Gilgulim, Rav Chaim Vital recalls the Ari Ha Kadosh stating "do not be astonished that you find in them great wisdom, for from their original root they come from angels; but once they became clothed in physicality, they became a great corruption".  That is really the hallmark of Erev Rav - great wisdom of some kind.  Scientific, judicial, artistry, leadership, business, Kabballah, it is not the simple and ignorant people, who are likely just influenced by them, captured by them, or unaware.  These are the highest levels of Erev Rav, the lower levels are just as dangerous, but far less successful, know them by their actions.  Amalek is probably the most obvious level to identify, as they are always connected to Erev Rav, but themselves are not born of Jewish mothers.

Shaar Ruach HaKodesh 

Not every spirit that enters a person is holy; some imitate the Holy Spirit.

We see a phenomenon among newly religious ba'alei teshuva in particular, where their knowledge simply explodes, and they all of a sudden gain popularity and begin to influence others toward new ideas not in keeping with the Torah, or in their logic, keeping the Torah in a better way, against the rulings of the Rabbis, and our accepted customs.  

Often, their blemished or unclear lineage is a source of frustration, opening them to receiving iburim from high, but corrupted sources, as happened with J.C. Penny, Shabatai Tzvi, and other false messiahs, including messianic cults in modern times that spun off otherwise holy sources.  Another hallmark of this group is the desire to shout out their revelations from the rooftops, and influence people to take some kind of action against an established custom, or the ways of groups of Torah Jews.  

Typically, the individuals at the level of Refaim are closest to traditional Jewish thought and are the most difficult to identify with the deepest admixtures of good and evil.  They often have some blemished ancestry, and are not preferred vessels for the higher levels like Nephilim, or Giborim, but they soon ally with them.  There is typically a progressive diminishment that happens over generations of these groups as they intermarry until eventually, they become Amalekim, the Rothschild banking Family is a perfect example of this progressive descent from Nephilim to Amalek.  The Soros family is an example of Giborim, degrading to Anakim, but not to Amalek outright, as the mother of the younger Soros heir was Jewish.  The heir married an Amalekite from the side of Ishmael, and thus their children will become Amalek, Hashem Yerachem.

Malbim: Shemot 32:4

The Erev Rav were the first instigators of the Golden Calf.

The Erev Rav were not simple idolaters, don't make that mistaken conclusion.  They wished to harness the power of the Moshiach Ben Yosef by means of a calf, in order to ensure that the redemption would NOT arrive, but they did it in a way that blended the sacred and the profane.  We learn that the means by which Moshe retrieved the bones of Yosef was by inscribing "alei Shor" (arise, ox!) on a parchment and casting it into the Nile.  The "Egyptian Boy", the only Israelite of blemished lineage, who Moshe himself saved from being ground into mortar, against the recommendation of Hashem, cast that parchment into the fire with the gold, and produced a fully animated calf that answered all of the questions asked of it by Bnei Israel, but suffered from a hallucination of the death of Moshe Rabenu.  This is the root of the concept of Artificial Intelligence, another tool of Erev Rav to suppress and corrupt the minds and souls of Bnei Israel and thus delay the Geula.  There is nothing good that can come of AI, period.  Its ultimate outcome, even according to its creators and chief proponents, is to render humanity redundant.

The mixed multitude is the Erev Rav and the root of all rebellion.

To conclude this part, understand that any individual who professes to be a Torah Jew, and attempts to go against the words of our sages and Rabbis, goes against Moshe Rabenu and thus against the Will of the Creator.  Think about what happened to Korach, the Gadol ha Dor, who had legitimate arguments and sound reasoning and the will of the voters, as it were.  The first commandment giving to Bnei Yisrael after our circumcision and Exodus from Egypt was the calendar.  The curious thing about the calendar, is that the Rabbis, namely the Sanhedrin, had it within their judgement to alter the month, something that is the most obviously natural and seemingly immutable phenomenon that all the earth is subject to.  Hashem placed the Torah in the hands of our Holy Rabbis, and just because our generation is so low and steeped in darkness, is no reason for us to maintain that the Torah is in Heaven, and we have no right to rebel against our Rabbis.  Even if it makes no logical sense, Heaven will acquiesce to their rulings.  Erev Rav makes very logical arguments, but ultimately, the Torah is not in Heaven, it was given to the Jewish People, and therein we can know who is truly Erev Rav without any doubt whatsoever.
